The Cape, Windborne
The wind was quiet today.
Only five days had passed since Tzilan had come here; five days since he sent their old leader away; five days since he said he would lead them by the voice of the wind. Five days since the wind had last spoken to him.
The lean young stag was tense but determined to appear aloof. He must show nerves of steel and a countenance of calm - they must not know his fear. He told them he would be meditating and they believed him and so he could step away. His golden figure was still as stone and his eyes were lidded almost-shut, but he was more tense than he had ever been.
He stood apart from the herd but watched them carefully, waiting for the first sign of discontent or trouble but they were not a group he expected to rebel. They were hungry and tired: worn down by persecution and the Cape’s poor grazing, most seemed to have taken the change of leader with a weary shrug.

The first time we were both sitting in the room together, getting ready to take the math test that would determine our placement. I was scatterbrained and throwing things around, trying to find the pencils that I had known I would need but had still just tossed in my purse. He was lounging backwards in his chair, looking for all the world as though he didn’t have a single care in the world, including the upcoming test. It annoyed me, that I was frantic and ready to scream, while someone else could be that relaxed.
